Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ClearAccess accessibility scanning
What is ClearAccess and how does it work?
ClearAccess is a free website accessibility scanner that checks your site for WCAG 2.1 and ADA compliance. Simply enter your website URL, and our tool uses axe-core and Playwright to scan your pages for accessibility violations. You'll get an instant report with detailed findings, suggested fixes, and even auto-generated CSS solutions for color contrast issues.
Is ClearAccess really free?
Yes! Our basic scanning service is completely free. You can scan websites and get detailed accessibility reports with no credit card required. We also offer Pro and Business plans with additional features like unlimited scans, priority support, and advanced reporting capabilities.
What accessibility standards does ClearAccess check for?
ClearAccess checks your website against WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) Level A and AA standards, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance requirements, and Section 508 standards. Our scanner tests for color contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, semantic HTML, ARIA labels, form accessibility, and more.
How long does a website accessibility scan take?
Most scans complete in 15-30 seconds. The exact time depends on your website's size, complexity, and loading speed. Our scanner is optimized to be fast while still providing comprehensive results.
Can ClearAccess automatically fix accessibility issues?
ClearAccess provides auto-generated CSS fixes for color contrast violations, which you can copy and paste directly into your stylesheets. For other issues, we provide detailed explanations, code examples, and specific recommendations for remediation. Our AI-powered suggestions help you understand and fix each violation quickly.
What types of accessibility issues can ClearAccess detect?
ClearAccess detects a wide range of issues including: insufficient color contrast, missing alt text on images, incorrect heading structure, missing form labels, keyboard navigation problems, ARIA attribute errors, link and button accessibility, semantic HTML issues, focus indicators, and more. Our scanner uses axe-core, the industry-standard accessibility testing engine.
How accurate is the ClearAccess scanner?
ClearAccess uses axe-core, which is maintained by Deque Systems and used by major organizations worldwide. It has a very low false-positive rate and is continuously updated to reflect the latest accessibility standards. However, automated testing catches about 30-40% of all accessibility issues, so we recommend combining automated scans with manual testing for complete compliance.
Can I export my accessibility scan results?
Yes! ClearAccess allows you to export your scan results in multiple formats: PDF reports for stakeholders and documentation, CSV files for data analysis and tracking, and HTML reports for detailed technical review. All export formats include your accessibility score, grade, detailed violations with code examples, and remediation guidance.
Do I need to install anything to use ClearAccess?
No installation required! ClearAccess is a web-based tool that works directly in your browser. Simply visit clearaccesses.com, enter your website URL, and click scan. No browser extensions, downloads, or technical setup needed.
Is my website data secure when using ClearAccess?
Yes. ClearAccess only analyzes the public-facing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript of your website - the same content any visitor would see. We don't store your website's content, only the scan results (accessibility score, violation counts, and suggestions). We use HTTPS encryption for all connections and follow industry-standard security practices.
Can ClearAccess scan password-protected or staging websites?
Currently, ClearAccess can only scan publicly accessible websites. If you need to scan password-protected or staging environments, consider temporarily allowing our scanner's IP address or contact us about Enterprise solutions with custom authentication support.
How often should I scan my website for accessibility?
We recommend scanning your website: (1) Before launching a new site or feature, (2) After any design or content updates, (3) At least quarterly for ongoing compliance, (4) Whenever you add new page templates or components. Regular scanning helps you catch accessibility issues early and maintain compliance over time.
What's the difference between ClearAccess Free, Pro, and Business plans?
Free plan includes basic scanning with monthly limits. Pro plan ($29.99/month) offers unlimited scans, priority support, advanced analytics, and bulk scanning. Business plan ($140/month) adds team collaboration, API access, white-label reports, custom integrations, and dedicated support. All plans include the same powerful axe-core scanning engine.
Can ClearAccess help me achieve ADA compliance?
ClearAccess is a powerful tool for identifying and fixing accessibility issues that are required for ADA compliance. However, ADA compliance involves both technical standards and legal requirements. Our scanner helps you meet the technical WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards (which ADA references), but we recommend consulting with legal counsel and conducting user testing to ensure full compliance.
Does ClearAccess work with modern JavaScript frameworks?
Yes! ClearAccess uses Playwright, which fully renders JavaScript before scanning. This means we can accurately test websites built with React, Vue, Angular, Next.js, Svelte, and other modern frameworks. Our scanner executes your JavaScript just like a real browser, ensuring accurate results for dynamic content.
